Mary Jane Ceramics

Mary Jane Elgin creates her ceramics in her studio on Orcas Island in Washington. She has been perfecting her techniques of piercing her clay forms over the last eight years. I am intrigued by the space which is created by the original ceramic form, the “inside space” relating to the “outside space” and the coaxing of three dimensional forms into defining the tension between these two spaces. There are so many different ways to feel about the spaces in and around a bowl, some being utilitarian and others offering

us a path to the sacred.

My artistic vision has led me on a search for ways to combine the themes and forms which resonate with me, in an effort to create new and unique spaces, and bring the viewer to a fresh consideration of form along with a new appreciation for materials and esthetic.
